Reporting and compensation

The public authorities use reports to the Danish Medicines Agency, as well as applications for patient compensation, to get a sense of how many people are affected by side effects. In Denmark, knowledge about those affected by side effects is currently not collected in any other way. Unfortunately, there is a large underreporting of vaccine injuries and side effects, which makes it difficult to get a full overview of the frequency and severity of vaccine side effects. It is therefore important that you register your side effects.

REPORTING SIDE EFFECTS TO THE MEDICINES AUTHORITY

"You should contact a doctor if you experience prolonged symptoms or severe symptoms after you have been vaccinated. If the doctor suspects that the symptoms are a side effect of the vaccine, the doctor must report it to the Danish Medicines Agency."
The Danish Medicines Agency

There is a stricter reporting requirement for reporting side effects after Covid-19 vaccination, so your doctor cannot abdicate his responsibility for reporting your side effects. However, it can be difficult to get your doctor to acknowledge that you may have become ill from the Covid-19 vaccination. Therefore, it is smart to report your side effects yourself if you want to be sure that all side effects are reported. If you have been ill for a long time, have had several side effects, have experienced worsening or have had some of your symptoms diagnosed, we encourage you to make a new report.

APPLICATION FOR FINANCIAL COMPENSATION FROM PATIENTS' COMPENSATION

You are entitled to receive compensation if you have suffered financial, physical or psychological loss. Financial loss can be in the form of lost earnings, lost ability to work, loss of breadwinner in the event of death and expenses for medicine, physiotherapy, etc. that you have incurred as a result of your injury. Physical and psychological loss covers permanent physical or psychological harm, as well as pain and suffering.

The main criterion for receiving compensation for side effects after vaccination is that you have suffered damage from the side effects and that this has resulted in impaired health. However, it can be difficult to prove that it is the vaccination that has made you ill. It is not enough that there is a temporal connection. There must also be a predominant probability that the damage has occurred as a result of the vaccination. This is assessed by the Patient Compensation Fund and is based on your medical records, as well as whether your side effects appear in the EMA's official summary of product characteristics.

If you apply for patient compensation within 3 years of the vaccination, you will have the opportunity to receive compensation if one or more of your symptoms appear on the official list of recognized side effects within the first 10 years. It may therefore be a good idea to apply for compensation even if you know that your symptoms are not yet recognized as vaccine side effects. If you have continuously experienced several side effects, experienced worsening or had some of your symptoms diagnosed, you must apply for compensation on a new one in order to be entitled to compensation for the specific side effect, in the event that it appears on the list of recognized side effects.
